Mid-Atlantic Market Pepperoni Roll Review

Everyone probably had that thing that they’re so excited to eat whenever they get back to their hometown. If you’re from West Virginia, that is a pepperoni roll. In this video, you’ll find my favorite Morgantown pepperoni roll. I hope you enjoy my Mid-Atlantic Market pepperoni roll review!

In this video, we’re going to start something new. We’re going to start focusing on local delicacies. Whenever I go to different areas around the country, I will get what’s best in their area.

For instance, the Chicago dog or the Primanti Brothers sandwich in Pittsburgh. Whatever is popular there. What do the locals love to eat? That’s what I’m getting into, and for West Virginia, what better place to start than where I live? Morgantown, West Virginia. Odds are if you talk to someone from West Virginia you’ll probably hear them talk about a pepperoni roll.

So, what is a pepperoni roll? Pepperoni rolls were invented in my hometown of Fairmont, West Virginia. It was a good lunch that coal miners could take down under the ground without worrying about it going bad.

That may not be the exact way the story went down. I omitted some details, but you get the basics. You just put some pepperoni in the middle of some dough and bake it in the oven, which is so good. You can bake a dozen of them. You can eat them for three or four days. They keep for a long time. They’re everywhere in West Virginia.

If you’re ever driving through West Virginia and you’re in a gas station, look around. Look around on the shelves. You’ll probably see these strange little loaves of bread in a small plastic wrapper. What is this? Well, that’s a pepperoni roll.

You know, back in the day, you could get one for about a dollar, but now they’re around $3-$4. So, what I’m going to do is I’m going to try all the pepperoni rolls in West Virginia. Then I’m going to score them. Today, we’re starting with my favorite, Mid-Atlantic Market.

Mid-Atlantic Market is a Morgantown gas station, but they have great food! They have a full-on deli. They bake these pepperoni rolls in-house. It’s just an amazing place. They have a warmer they keep all the pepperoni rolls in. This keeps the cheese melted on the ones that have cheese on them. I didn’t mention that some pepperoni rolls can have different toppings, including cheese and chili, which we call sauce in West Virginia. I doubt you knew that!

Obviously, I’ve had this before. It is my favorite, but I’m going to score it and go around and score as many West Virginia pepperoni rolls as I can. If you have a pepperoni roll that is better than this, I’d love to hear about it. I know that Country Club Bakery is going to be mentioned. There will be some different ones and I can’t wait to hear about them.

I’d love to find one better, but I don’t think it exists. As I said, Mid-Atlatnic Market pepperoni rolls could be in the warmer. I don’t want that for this situation. I want the on-the-shelf pepperoni roll. I don’t want it to be fresh out of the oven. I want to be able to grab a pepperoni roll off the shelf, packaged in plastic, without anyone having the advantage of it being warm. The bread should be fresh, with a thick amount of pepperoni. That’s all there is to it – bread and pepperoni. Having some grease on the bottom is nice, and you can’t beat that.

This is my first one, and I will score it from one to ten. I’m giving this one an 8.9. Remember, this is my favorite one. So why not give it a 10? If I gave it a ten, what if I find one better? That’s why I have to leave some room at the top.

What’s your favorite local delicacy in the town you grew up? I’d love to hear about it. Comment it on my YouTube video by clicking here.
